General Hypermobility - It is estimated that 35%-50% of children in London display some form of hypermobility  - The implications of this can be negligible or far reaching

( Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder)  As a parent of two hypermobile children who have done a decent amount of sport and I having been practicing since the advent of when hypermobility became 'a thing', no two cases are the same. So questtions like "is it irrelevant," "are orthotics

required" or will exercsises alone be enough to counter its effcets "are all questions you will frequently hear said. As a podiatrist and a parent  I would say be lead by two things. 1..When your child continuosly complains of pain take it seriously enough to get it checked out -It couldf be growing pains or connected to their biomechanics. 2. If associated pains are restricting activity levels or quality of life.

I haven't been overprescriptive with orthotics with my two, but I HAVE  been overprescriptive  about administering strengthening exercises that should hold them in good stead for the future. Despite that though, I foresee a time where there bodymass increases and their choice of activity and possibly footwear may require them to have orthotics.  .  So for busy parents whose children do lots of sport, it is more advisable to get an

assessment done by a podiatrist and then you can make an informed choice of whether to intervene with orthotics and foot and ankle support.
